Darren Pywell (left in picture) and David Tattersall (right in picture) co-founded Intergral "with the vision to provide context-rich, unified information across the enterprise," they told Cold Fusion Developer's Journal in an exclusive interivew. Intergral (www.intergral.com) "With this vision in mind, we wanted to build our solutions on INTERnet technologies and we knew that our software would be an inteGRAL part of the business – so we put the two together and came up with Intergral," Tattersall says. Both founding partners have a long career history of building information and knowledge management solutions, so this was the natural choice for the company focus, they say.
Elaborating on these remarks, Tattersall, who serves as Managing Director, discussed specific customer needs and other key aspects of the company that are critical to Pywell (who serves as Managing Partner and CTO) and him as the company continues to carry out its mission.
CFDJ: What sorts of content do your customers manage? What sorts of problems are you solving for your customers?
Tattersall: Our customers typically manage what we call “unstructured information," which usually accounts for approximately 80% of all the content in a typical organization. Unstructured simply means that it lives in documents rather than being organized in a database. This information includes emails, reports, sales and marketing literature, competitive intelligence details and also business process definitions.
In order to explain which problems we solve, I’d like to quote one of our customers, Raoul Heinze, who is Strategic Planning Manager, IPG at Hewlett-Packard: “People think they want more information...what they really want is fast access to relevant information to do their job, meaning in the context of the business processes they are involved in."
A further example of what we do is provide a virtual storage and navigation domain by seamlessly integrating into third-party information solutions. An example of this integration in the DMS/CMS world is to unify Documentum and Livelink. This allows information from Livelink to be directly accessed from the user interface of Documentum and vice-versa, resulting in true independence from the existing vendor landscape.
In our view, a key customer requirement centers on solving the issue of consolidating distributed content sources into a single virtual repository, so that they can achieve real efficiency improvements and achieve the competitive advantage they need to survive in today’s economic climate.
